Ly Son - Sa Huynh Geopark: From dreams to reality
Four years of preparation
After four years of preparation since 2015, by the end of November 2019, functional departments had completed the dossier of Ly Son - Sa Huynh Geopark to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a Geopark. This is a great joy, meeting the expectations of officials and people in the province with the goal of preserving the heritage area and developing sustainable tourism.
The Park has a total area of over 5,000 km2 (land and sea) go through 10 districts and city with about 1 million people. This place includes different types of cultural and historical heritages of national and international values such as ancient of Sa Huynh, Champa and Dai Viet cultures. This is also the convergence of geological diversity, geomorphology created by volcanic activity with preserved intact value and pristine beauty.
Four tourism routes
Before submitting to the UNESCO for recognition of Ly Son - Sa Huynh Geopark, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has invited experts to survey, evaluate the values of geological, geomorphological, landscape and historical cultural heritages; conducted the survey and building the overall theme of the park with 4 tourism routes.

Four converging tourist routes include the Eastern route - Mystery in sacred islands. This is the voyage to visit Ly Son Island, the core zone of Ly Son - Sa Huynh Geopark. With 30 intertwined geological and cultural heritage sites, Ly Son island district fascinates people with Hang Cau cliffs, Thoi Loi volcanic crater, Gieng Tien as a natural museum.
Ly Son is home to many traces of Sa Huynh residents who lived on the island 2,500 years ago.
For the Western rout to Tra Bong mountain area, visitors will be attracted to Time dance. It is the dance of the ancient continent, the lithosphere, the metamorphic rocks, etc.
Visitors will have the opportunity to set foot on the Ca Dam Mountain - the roof of Quang Ngai with 1,400 meters higher than the sea level.
Sa Huynh culture
Going to the Southern route is ancient cultures; ancient spaces with the vestiges of the brilliant cultures of Sa Huynh and Champa.
Leaving the center of Quang Ngai city, visitors can visit and enjoy Thien An Niem Ha or My Khe beach.
Tourists will also be awakened by the call coming from Binh Chau beach of wrecked ancient ships. A ceramic road in the East Sea, next to the abrasive stone terraces, interesting cliffs in Ba Lang An, Ganh Yen was created from volcanic activity erupted millions of years ago.
On the basis of shaping Ly Son - Sa Huynh Geopark, in the near future, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with local authorities, will continue to carry out activities to gradually reach the goal of promoting heritage values in park area, bringing practical benefits to the people through sustainable tourism development.
