Over 308 storm and flood prevention houses handed over to people in Mo Duc

​Recently, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the owner of the GCF component project in Quang Ngai province held a ceremony handing over 308 storm and flood prevention houses to benefit people in Mo Duc district.

The project "Strengthening resilience to climat​e change impacts of vulnerable coastal communities in Vietnam" funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) was started in late 2017 in the provinces of Nam Dinh, ThanhHoa, QuangBinh, QuangNgai, Quang Nam, ThuaThien Hue and Ca Mau.

In the central region, the project area is mainly supported the central provincial disaster preparedness plan includes contents such as storm and flood coping plans; integrated flood management plan by river basin; solutions to cope with coastal erosion.

It will also focus on soft solutions such as improving the capacity of people to cope with natural disasters, restoring the ecosystem in which the project supports such as support build storm and flood resistant houses and plant mangroves.

Each beneficiary household will receive USD 1,700 from the project and VND 14 million from Decision 48 on support policies, supporting poor households to build houses to prevent and avoid floods in the Central region, the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies provides a loan of VND 15 million.

This is a meaningful program to support the construction of safe and spacious new houses for poor households in areas frequently affected by natural disasters.

In Quang Ngai, the project is implemented in 4 coastal districts of Binh Son, Mo Duc, Tu Nghia, Duc Pho and TP. Quang Ngai.

From 2017 to 2021, the project has carried out the support of construction of 683 houses with storm and flood resistant design for poor households with about 3,415 beneficiaries.

The total aid of the project is nearly VND 27 billion.

In Mo Duc district, the project has been implemented since the end of 2017.

Up to now, 308 safe houses have been completed and handed over to people, corresponding to about 1,540 beneficiaries who are poor and vulnerable due to natural disasters in 9 communes, Mo Duc district.
