RENEW helps Quang Ngai to overcome war consequences

Recently, in Quang Ngai City, representatives of RENEW Project and the Red Cross of Quang Ngai province signed a written agreement to reduce the impact of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) in the period of 2020-2021 with the funding of Irish Aid.

The signing ceremony was taken place in the context of Quang Ngai is one of 17 provinces most heavily affected by mines and UXO remaining after the war but has not yet received support from the international community to overcome the consequences.

Based on the results of cooperation for the period 2018-2019, RENEW Project will continue to support the Quang Ngai Red Cross in maintaining a network of mine detection reports in the project areas and organize communication to raise public awareness about the dangers of mines and guide children and adults in safe behaviors.

In addition, RENEW Project will also assist the Quang Ngai Red Cross in carrying out activities to support rehabilitation and livelihood development for mine/UXO victims in the province.

The Project on Restoring the Environment and Neutralizing the Effects of the War (RENEW), established in August 2001, is an effort to reduce the number of deaths and injuries from bombs and other unexploded ordnance left over after the war ended in 1975 in Quang Tri province and provinces in Central Vietnam.
